Skip the Strip: An Old Series Revived!

Back in 2006 I began a series called "Skip the Strip" that involved "off strip" activities for residents and tourists alike.  I hope you enjoy and I will be adding more activities for months to come!

Many people don’t even realize that beyond the strip lies vast culture, history and beauty in the city and desert that surrounds the Las VegasSkip the Las Vegas Strip Strip (Gambling District).  They never make it beyond the glitzy lights, gaming, restaurants, shopping, nightclubs and shows that are on the strip.

Las Vegas is surrounded by areas that make the perfect home to the outdoor enthusiast.  Love camping, hiking (maps), climbing, rafting, boating, fishing and skiing/snowboarding?  Yes, snow sports too!  Believe it or not they exist within a “stone’s throw” of this amazing city!

Before you go off and explore in the desert you must be properly equipped:  Check weather forecast so you can dress appropriately for warm or cool weather, bring lots of water, wear proper shoes if hiking or climbing and be cautious.  It is easy to get lost in the desert or fall off of rocks if you perform an activity that you are not accustomed to.

Things to Do Off the Las Vegas Strip:

Las Vegas Parks

Lake Mead National Recreation Area

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

Mt Charleston Ski & Snowboard Resort

Valley of Fire

Wordless Wednesday: Morning After a Las Vegas Rain

Las Vegas Mountains After Rain

Las Vegas Mountains After Rain

I could not restrain from pulling off onto a rural road near custom land property here in Southwest Las Vegas after performing a drive-by BPO in Mountain's Edge on Monday morning to take advantage of the phenomenal sight while I still had my camera-in-tote.

It has pretty much been raining here off and on since Sunday.  Air conditioner went off last week and rain is a most welcome after a long and hot summer + a drought stricken area.

This is one thing I love about doing BPOs - waking up at the butt crack of dawn to find some of the most magnificient sunrises in the Las Vegas valley!
