Helping Clients Re-Home Pets

Like Emmary I too couldn't even imagine life without my three fur babies.

As a long time, dedicated and devoted dog mama, I am just so saddened to hear of stories of pets that have been abandoned because of foreclosure or furry family members that have to be given up because families can no longer afford to keep them.

Any agency and/or service that is specifically geared to helping these poor creatures is a desperately needed service.  In an effort to promote the services of this wonderful organization, I would like to pass along this info to anyone who knows of any fur babies that are in need of a new home.

People are not the only ones losing their homes, lets do what we can to help the ones that can't help themselves.

Via Emmary Nicholson:

Over the last week, on my intraweb email, there have been quite a few realtors looking to help their clients rehome pets.  I can't imagine having to do that.  My girl, Belle, is everything to me.  Personally, I'd live in my car before giving her up.

That's my girl!

However, I've seen heart-breaking stories on why people have to give up their furry friends.  Home foreclosed on, new rental place won't allow pets and no one in their circle can adopt or foster.  What can you do to help out without having to utter those words:  "I guess you'll have to take them to the shelter."

These days there are a ton of options and, thanks to the net, all it takes is a quick Google search to find help.  Local animal lovers normally have a network set up for helping rehome animals either locally or attaching the animal to a transport to another town.  There are also breed specific rescues that can help point you in the right direction if they can't take the pet themselves.  Some rescuers will take on the role of a foster for a while until a person is set up in a place and are able to take the pet back.  There is an organization called "Foreclosure Pets" that was created to help.

Take a moment, do a google search in your local area and create a reference list that you can keep handy in case you happen to run across this situation.  It won't take that long to do and, in the end, you're helping someone deal with a very emotional and trying time.

Donne - thank you for posting this. There are so many options available to those who truly need to rehome their pets. What I find sad are those who had had to abandon their homes and simply left their pets behind, or when faced with forest fires simple left their pets behind to fend for themselves. It is, indeed, a tough situation, but I think workable.

Donne:  Just one more example of your big heart -- this is such a tough time for so many of us and it's heartbreaking to see "family" being left behind.

Donne, We've had dogs for many years, now we have cats and life would be very strange without one or the other in our home!  We have an unofficial cat shelter in our garage thanks to being "found" by abandoned cats with kittens.  Our local no-kill shelters are perpetually full with a waiting list.

I would love to be the real estate agent for pet owners since I have a zoo at home.  I have great ideas of information to provid to pet owners about general care and moving with animals.  Do you have information or websites you would like to share?

Glen came into our lives because his mom's owner couldn't afford to keep her anymore and she delivered her to the shelter just before she had a littler of 9.  Glen was the only boy.

Fortunately all the puppies and the mom were adopted.  And if you take a puppy that is too young for surgery the shelter makes you prove that you've had them spayed or neutered within 6 months or they will remove them from your care.  And of course we got Glen neutered.  I do feel so much sadness for anyone who has to give up a pet.  I doubt if my rural area has any such type organization, but I'm going to look to find out.

Hey Donne,

This is a great reblog. I have wondered about the poor little guys being abandoned by people that simply cannot afford them. I cringe when I see homeless people starving with their pet!

Donne - Wow I would miss those babies too. What beautiful babies it is sad to see the amount of abandoned animals. But then there are some wonderful people out there too that try to pick up the slack and help find homes for animals.

Jeff - I too am just horrified by some of the stories I have heard of abandoned pets left to fend for themselves or die in vacant houses.  Some of the stories just make me so sad.

Emmary - Absolutely honored to.  It's such an important message and one that definitely needs to shouted from the rooftops.

Debbie - Whether they're cats or dogs, pets that were once a beloved family member don't deserve to be abandoned.  They deserve better.

Thx for stopping by folks; I appreciate it.  :)

Dan - It is a very important topic and one that needs to passed along at every opportunity.

Tish - I am definitely a sucker for a furry face and big, wet, slobbery "kisses".

Liz & Bill - I would love to "foster" a few fur babies until they find a forever home but hubby says no because he's afraid they will never leave.  LOL  (he's probably right).

Thx for stopping by folks; I really appreciate it.  :)

Jane - My fave pet associations are the local Best Friends sanctuary here in Los Angeles as well as some local rescues.

Best Friends - LA

Tammy - Glen and your family were very lucky to have found each other.  I truly think that on some level, our fur babies pick us as much as we pick them.

Greg - I too am just so heartsick when I see the homeless and their pets.  One part of me is glad the homeless person has a companion but then I feel sorry for the pet who has to live like that.

Thx for stopping by folks; I really appreciate it.  :)

Jane - Thx for the link to the video, I think.  I'm sorry but I couldn't finishi it.

Ken - The people who run the rescues and foster fur babies until they find their forever home are absolute saints.

Thx for stopping by everyone; I really appreciate it.
