www.lasvegasmtg.com Report: Preserving Calico Basin, Nevada
by John Le Francois
www.lasvegasmtg.com Report: Preserving Calico Basin, Nevada a sanctuary for Las Vegans for hiking, rock climbers and nature enthusiast may be in jeopardy with Nevada budget crisis. Our current deficits will create a hardship for state legislature to fund state parks when they are seeking 1 billion dollar cut from the school district.
The Calico Basin area has been a sanctuary for mankind going back over 5,000 years with petroglyphs as the only testament that they were here. A natural springs makes it rich in diversity for flora and fuana. Only about 30 minute drive from the strip this should be a day trip for those tourist that do not think there is anything else but the strip. Other recommended places to visit along the way are Red Rock Canyon, Mountain Spring State Park, Bonnie Springs Old West Amusement and Petting Zoo and the little town Blue Diamond.

Hello John and this would have been a great post to my photography group! Vegas Bob hikes at Calico Basin almost ever day, it is only 10 minutes from where I live and it's where I hike and rejuvenate. There is a 5 acre lot set on a little hill that has a 360 degree view of Calico Basin, I would really love to own it!
Your post has been featured at one of my favorite groups at AR ...

Robert,
Thank you for the featured post. Yes I love Calico Basin as it was the first place I visited in 1969 outside of Las Vegas strip. I have great memories of Calico Basin and have never forgotten them.
WOW John 1969 ... Calico Basin has really changed since then, there is a park at the end of the road and a 5 acre parcel VB would love to purchase ...
VB ;o)
Vegas Bob,
I love the beauty of Calico Basin. There is a peaceful atmosphere that is soothing to the soul. It is one of my favorite spots near Las Vegas. At nighttime you can see so many stars shining down and it is breathtaking.
