Did you know it snows in Las Vegas?  It does about once a year.   I woke up early this morning with a pleasant surprise!  The kids have been anticipating it as we didn't receive our "annual snow" last year.  The one we had the year before more than made up for it though.  In March 2005 we had 5-6 inches.

It normally happens on the outer western edges of the valley (where we are) in the dead of the night (5 AM here!)  Usually it just sticks to the plants.  My palm tree is modeling right now.  We don't normally have to deal with it hanging around and the ground is usually too warm so we don't have to worry about driving in it.

I think I lost my palm tree this year due to being under freezing 5 nights in a row right after Thanksgiving :(

This will make perfect ski/snowboard powder up at Mount Charleston or sledding powder up at Red Rock Canyon for all the kids out on winter break.  Guess my plans are changed for the day!

I just wanted to share since I saw a bunch of people share their first snow of the season back in November :)

are all of your power lines down now because of the snow?  Hence the reason that you or nobody else is commenting?   lol

Renee, it was below freezing for the first time in at least 10 years here in Los Angeles this morning. We had frost on our grass and my kids were freaking out. They'd never seen it before. We go to the snow once a year so they can play in it, but they had never seen frost on our grass. By noon it was 64 again and all is well.  : )

 Dos Jeffs:

Belonger:  No power lines down!  It was just the beauty of it!

Turner:  By the time the sun came up all was well here too!  No snow
