I Can See Clearly Now the Rain is Gone!

No one told me when I moved to the desert 10 years ago that it gets cold but it does and it pretty much has been since Christmas Eve!  I am sure you have heard the saying "but it's a dry heat."  Well there is a such thing as a dry cold too.  The wind HOWLS here in the winter and even though it can make it up to 50 or 60 degrees, if it is windy, it will go right through you!

Last Friday the storms rolled in and we saw the last of the rain in the middle of the night this past night.  I love storms because they bring snowpack in the mountains which brings water to the Valley in the spring and sustains the aquafers.

The beautiful thing with winter storms is that  you get to see the snow but you don't have to clean up after it like we did in Nebraska!  About once a year it will snow in the foothills (where we live) and we had a snow either in 2003 or 2004 that measured about 5"!!

Here are some pictures, enjoy!

Day after storm rolled in (Sat, Red Rock Canyon from my balcony):

Monday (day before storm subsided Red Rock Canyon from my backyard):

Snow in Red Rock Canyon (Las Vegas)

I took that pic at 7 AM.  By noon most had melted.  When I was taking my kids to school that morning I wish I had my camera with me.  Mt Potosi provided a beautiful backdrop to the Rhodes Ranch Community as I sat on Robindale (westbound) at Durango.

I will take anybody's rain they do not want. I will welcome it with a going out in the rain and enjoying it while it fills my lakes back up about 7 feet.

Hi Renee, It always amazes me to see snow in the mountains near Las Vegas. Thanks for sharing! I have only seen pictures of Mt. Charleston, never Red Rock with snow!

Hi Renee,

Just dropping by to say that I love your post. I've read quite a few of them and you sure can write. The rain is gone here in Phoenix too, Thank god. I prefer the sunshine any day, altough the rain is well needed.

Renee, that's gorgeous! What a view you have. I never knew it snowed in Vegas. You learn something new every day! I'm glad you're feeling better. :-)

The view of your pictures remind me a little looking out at The Sandias from the backyard of my grandparents in Albuquerque. Beautiful.

Renee...

I hear you on this.

No one told me it would be cold in Florida.

In the winter time it can 30 degrees one day and 80 the next.

We have not had a good hard rain in over a month.

Have you ever tried throwing something in a dried up creek? :)

Oh...

It's loading faster but your weather widget just dumped a gazillion cookies in my p.c.

Do you have some milk to go with those? :)

Susan:  I think our reservoir is about 100 feet down!

Allison:  It's cool to get a winter feel without having to deal with driving in or cleaning up after the snow!

Vinnie:  I love sunny days too.  I always want to climb into my bed and go into fetal position and hibernate on days just like the ones we had!

Linda:  I am feeling much much better.  My hand still feels just slightly bruised around my knuckles but I am dealing

Craig:  It is beautiful and being from Nebraska, I appreciate the mountainous backdrop in Vegas each and every day!

TLW:  WOW!  That is a long period without rain there!  I think it rained nicely every weekend in December!  I took off the weather widget there's your milk (LOL!) and sorry ---> \_/

Brian:  Don't we all wish it were April?  LOL!  I even wish it were Feb or Mar here!  April can be warm for us.

Cool pictures, I love rain, in particular thunder storms.  Thats crazy that you guys got snow that night and then it melted by day.
