I called this if we ever got more than 4" of snow - this city is going to be DISABLED!
McCarran International is closed. They do not have snow removal or de-icing equipment. We do not have much in the way of street snow removal equipment so major arteries are closed. Make sure you listen to the radio or television or go to www.lvrj.com for updates.
Snow and Cold Weather Tips:
- Cover your Anti-Siphon Valve - Affordable Tree Service fixes these rather inexpensively - 702-837-1500
- Turn off automatic sprinklers
- Unhook hoses from hose bibs
- Open cabinets that have plumbing in them so the heat can get to the pipes so they do not freeze
- Run your pool pump at all time when temps go below 35 degrees
- DO NOT DRIVE IF YOU DONT HAVE TO = people don't even know how to drive in the rain here, I can't imagine the snow!
- Take a broomstick to hit the wet snow off of bushes and trees = wet snow on leaves can cause damage. Trust me on this one - have seen it in Nebraska. Whole trees can come down. Call my friends at Affordable Tree Service 702-837-1500 if you need tree service.
Heather and Vitto Enjoying a moment in the snow (when it started)
The Burrowski Boyz installing a new battery in the Exploder. Died on me this AM. Some angel jump started me at 6:30 am at Fills gas station (BIG THANK YOU.) Had to cancel all appointments today. Was a good thing, followed up and wrote some investor contracts :) This is what I miss about living in Nebraska, how life comes to a complete standstill and you recognize what is important - FAMILY.
Heather made a snow launcher out of one of those pool noodles. She is currently walking around with a friend and terrorizing the neighborhood with it, wouldn't let me get a photo. I am going to beg my man pal to blow up the inflatable sleds so we can run up to the elementary school and go sledding :)

This is almost as bizarre as Maryland having a 95 degree weather day today. Make the best of it and take lots of pictures.
The same thing happened to me as a kid in Montgomery Alabama when there was like 2 inches of snow. They just told us all to pull the covers over our heads and stay indoors. In MD That is pretty common a few times during the winter, but still a pain. If we get a lot I always feel like it is so we stop, take a breath, and have some down time. Just hope you all stay nice and warm. Be safe driving.
My first thought was how cool it would be to be snowed in at Caesar's but then I remember a few trips to Vegas where I wanted nothing more that to get the H out of there asap!
Hope you are enjoying it. We use our pool floats as sleds when it snows here, too!
Renee - I would love to be in the middle of Vegas and snow. I grew up in Philadelphia, so snow isn't new to me, but loved trips to Vegas when I lived in Los Angeles for 8 years...the combo of the two would be awesome to see. A mass snowball fight on the Strip? Tell me you didn't think about it for a second.
Wow how fun- what a welcome change of scenery! We've had rain all day here in Palm Springs- and the mountains surounding us look like the Alps, covered with snow!!!
Renee - WOW! It was beautiful today in Denver! Then again, we are supposed to get another storm come weekend. Enjoy and stay warm. ~Rita
Thanks for the snow updates Renee. I am enjoying them.
Renee - wow. I always think of Las Vegas as being desert-like. Guess I was wrong. We had tons of rain here - a record - and lots of snow in the mountains in East San Digeo County. And it ain't even winter yet!!
Jeff
Can you believe there will be no school tomorrow??? SNOW DAY in Las Vegas!
Renee - It is hard to believe all this snow and out by Red Rock and the surrounding mountains, breath taking. Thanks for the post and great photos.
Renee - After taking a look at your blog again and all your information I decided to feature it at: LAS VEGAS - NEVADA
Very wonderful post!
I was just thinking out loud..wouldn't it be my luck to have booked a trip to Vegas to escape the cold and the snow and have this happen? I wonder how many vacationers are cursing right now?
This is so cool and I have to tell you that Austin Texas shuts down completely with tiny amounts of ice and snow. It's so raere no one knows what to do!
NEBRASKA?? Where? Rushville here! Way out in the corner of the panhandle.
Snow in Vegas. That must have screwed a lot of business plans and profits shutting that place down.
Sorry you can't do paragraphs and pictures. Mine let's me do both. Strange yours doesn't.
Russel, when I lived in Austing about 10 years ago, I had permission from my boss to stay home if it snowed. It did, once in about five years, maybe a quarter of an inch.
Paul, that's a beautiful shot you got in your comment with the snow on the mountains.
Snow here in Central Kentucky is gone in just a few days.
Merry Christmas to y'all!
